School 18

The Foundation

This is the school I love like no other. Greenspring Junior H.S. and Forest Park H.S. hold great memories too, but none like School 18.

It's the only school I can remember all of my teachers: Ms. Barth, Ms. Gregory, Ms. Wilson, Ms. Owens, Mr. Cheatham and principal Ms. Josey. Prior to Ms. Josey was Mr. Curtain, who was principal for my first two years. I can still picture him with his black framed glasses and the magic tricks he use to perform. He would later go onto Calloway elementary and impact the lives of many of the students I attended high school with.

During the summers, this is where we would play baseball - Rockrose vs Park Heights. As I would chase down fly balls, I would run across the playgrounds with its hopscotch, track and baseball diagrams emblazed on the grounds.

When I am in the neighborhood, I often go out of my way to drive down Druid Park Drive just for a glimpse and reminder of what was.

My appreciation for art, history, storytelling and culture was initiated here. My graduating class in 1978, was one of the last classes to graduate before its closing in 1980. It is now the Business Center @ Park Circle, but for those that have attended I think it's fair to say it will always be School 18 to us.
